East Coast

Who isn't enchanted by the Big Apple? I love the sights, sounds, lifestyle, culture, people, smells (well, most of them anyway), attitude, hope, excitement, and heart of big east coast cities. Specifically DC and NYC. I know these two cities are not similar in many ways outside of being in the same time zone however they both have a little piece of my heart and hopefully a slice of my future.

New York intrigues me because of her vastness, history, culture, and lifestyle. How does a city that size and of that infrastructure survive. How do apples get delivered to the corner deli? What time does the manager of the corner cafe have to be there to open up for the ibankers to get their caffeine fix to accelerate the cocaine (or is it crack? I can never keep my drugs straight.) that they took to help them stay awake for the previous 36 hours? How much money exchanges hands on Wall Street? How many tourists flow through the hotels, monuments, museums, and restaurants each day? How many important moments in history have occurred within the city? How much corruption has filtered down and is still consistently shaping the politics and business of the city? Who are the real civic/business leaders? What drives those that are successful? Who is there to tell them that the whole they are trying to fill isn't due to lack of money or power? How can you fit two people, clothes, and furniture into a 500 sq foot apartment? How amazing would it be to not own a car? How amazing would it be to walk everywhere again?

DC has my heart for several reasons. I love the politics, the patriotism behind living in our nation's capital, the history, the culture, and the ambition. DC (we're including Bmore in the greater DC area for this next statement) is home to not one or two but four of my fabulous grad school friends. Shannon, Mackenzie, Emy, and Megan all live in the area and to already have a support system AND to get to finally be around and in the daily life of these precious friends is something that I long for. I feel that a piece of me already lives in DC and if it wasn't for purely financial reasons I would have been there a year ago. DC consistently calls my name, asking me to come to Georgetown U and get my dream degree and start on the future that I see for myself. Why don't I just go? Am I being stubborn by waiting for all of the pieces to fall into place that never will? Or am I being smart and mature to not make a rash life-impacting decision? Who knows...who knows. What would it be like to be around those shaping our nation's future? How would I fit in this world of ambition, greed, and high stakes? Would I make myself known? Would I change into someone that I don't recognize? Would anything change other than my location?

Anyone want to move to NYC or DC? Give me one more year in Dallas and then I'm game. Let's make it happen and go have the time of our lives.
